An added benefit of repairing your own car horn is that it can usually be accomplished very quickly in under an hour, and the labor charges of an auto mechanic can be saved. The most basic of car repair tips for a broken horn is to check the horn and it’s components before rushing out to purchase a new one. By locating the exact cause that makes a horn fail to function you can often repair the horn without making an unnecessary purchase. First, check the car’s fuses to ensure that the fuse that is associated with the car horn has not burned out. If the fuse is okay, pop the car’s hood and look at the horn itself to see if there is a disconnection in the electrical wiring that supplies the horn. Lastly, there are adjustment screws on a car horn that can work their way out of position causing the horn to fail, and often times a car owner can get their horn working with little more than the turn of one of these screws. If all of the aforementioned measures are to no avail, it is probably necessary to replace the car horn. After obtaining the new horn for your car year and model, disconnect the old horn’s electrical connection and then remove it from the mounting brackets by removing the bolts or screws that hold it in place. Attach the new horn to the brackets and reconnect the electrical wiring, and then turn the horn adjustment screws until the horn is operating in a proper manner. Finally, one of the main reasons why a car horn does not work is because the horn button on the steering wheel is broken. This is also an easy problem to repair in a matter of minutes with the use of a horn button replacement kit which is relatively inexpensive and includes everything necessary to perform a professional job.
