Marine Piping in Egypt: Shore-to-Sea Pipeline Works for a Polypropylene Plant in Port Said

For the EPC contractor on a polypropylene complex in Port Said, TARRADCO carried out marine piping works running from inside the plant, across the shoreline and out towards the offshore section in the Mediterranean. Acting as the contractor's marine construction partner, our crews handled excavation, pipe laying, qualified welding and backfill from start to finish.

The challenge

Coastal pipeline work combines the hardest conditions in one place: loose sand, high groundwater, sea exposure and heavy coated pipe strings that must be lifted without damaging the coating. The end of the line sits underwater, where repairs are extremely costly, so every weld had to be right the first time.

Our scope

  • Excavation and trenching along the route, from the plant to the shoreline.
  • Handling and laying of coated pipe strings using multiple cranes in tandem.
  • Qualified welding to approved procedures (WPS/PQR).
  • Non-destructive testing (RT, UT, PT) and hydrostatic pressure testing.
  • Coating protection at joints.
  • Backfilling and reinstatement of the route.

Working with the offshore team

The onshore section had to be ready exactly when the offshore pipeline crews needed it. We coordinated our excavation, welding and testing with the contractor's marine and plant programmes so the shore approach was complete for the offshore tie-in.

The result

The pipelines were laid, tested and backfilled for the contractor, connecting the plant to the sea. The project shows EPC contractors that TARRADCO, as an offshore fabrication contractor in Egypt, can deliver the full onshore pipeline package on demanding coastal sites.
