Storage Tank Fabrication in Egypt: Tanks, LPG Spheres and Piping for MIDOR Refinery
The Middle East Oil Refinery (MIDOR) in the Amreya Free Zone, west of Alexandria, is one of the most advanced refineries in Africa. It produces diesel, gasoline, jet fuel and LPG, and after its expansion it processes up to 160,000 barrels per day. As an oil and gas fabrication company in Egypt, TARRADCO supported MIDOR with storage tank fabrication and erection, works on the refinery's LPG spheres, repairs, oil and gas piping and access platforms, all carried out inside a live, operating plant.
The challenge
A refinery never stops. Every crane lift, hot-work permit and tie-in has to fit around running process units, stored hydrocarbons and strict safety rules. MIDOR needed one local industrial fabrication contractor that could fabricate, erect and repair across several disciplines, from tanks and spheres to piping and steelwork, without disrupting production.
Our scope
- Storage tank fabrication and erection: shell plates cut, rolled and prepared at our 20,000 m² facility in Alexandria, then erected on site.
- Works on the refinery's LPG storage spheres.
- Repairs and maintenance on existing tanks.
- Oil and gas piping fabrication, pipe spools and tie-ins.
- Access platforms, stairways and handrails.
- Surface preparation to SA 2.5 and industrial coating.
Quality and safety
All welding was carried out by qualified welders to documented procedures (WPS/PQR), with non-destructive testing on critical welds and hydrostatic testing. Hot work and heavy lifts took place only inside the refinery's approved permit windows, so production continued without interruption.
The result
The tanks and associated works were handed over and put into service inside a running refinery. For oil and gas and petrochemical clients, the project shows that TARRADCO can deliver oil and gas steel fabrication, erection and repair to refinery safety standards, with one team from our Alexandria workshop to the plant site.
